U/Can Step-N-2 the Light

Cleveland's dancehall scene has lot going on; from the soundman and promoter, to the dancers, to veterans and new schoolers, there are several components to the dance.  But when it comes to getting the dance even MORE hype and bringing it to the red carpet level?  The video light.  Loved by best dressed patrons and dancehall queens alike, there is always much to see on the video.

Chat 'Bout Cleveland took a moment to talk with the man behind the camera,  Step-N-2 the Light Video Productions and U/Can Entertainment's mastermind, Corkskroo/C.D. Miller to talk about the flashing lights and getting Cleveland's dancehall scene back where it used to be...

As we move into 2008, Cleveland's reggae scene has had more than enough great dances, stage shows and other events.  But, with all the great events happening in Cleveland's dancehall ?scene', one would think that there would be an overwhelming outcry from Cleveland's Dancehall Don's & Diva's  to chat-up the camera and let Jamaica, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Miami & LA know how Cleveland's bashes sell-off and go mad.

Well, not so.

Thankfully, one man and his team have the plan to change that; as a matter of fact, change the game all together.  Standing Up, Speaking Up, Stepping Up and Stepping Out are Step-N-2 the Light Video Productions and U/Can Entertainment. Trust, the game has changed.  Step-N-2 the Light has been on the Dancehall scene in many cities including New York, Canada, Detroit, LA, and Miami.

As Step-N-2 the Light Video Productions alongside U/Can Entertainment makes Cleveland & New York its headquarters, the plan is simple: to take Cleveland's dancehall scene, spread it around and let the masses know "big ?tings ah ?gwaan" in Cleveland too.

"I want everyone to work together; take what I'm capturing here (in Cleveland) outside of Cleveland, so the scene can continue to grow," says CEO Corkskroo/C.D. Miller.  "I've been on the scene for years and when you see videos from Knight Rider (who actually distributes the Step-N-2 the Light DVD's) he always captures the best.  You know, the best dressed, the best dancers, and the soundmen.  The people in the DVD's don't mind chatting up the camera.  They understand that this is all about them and getting their name as promoters, soundmen, and dancers all across the dancehall scene.  They do things big everywhere else.  Even the rude boys chat up the camera.  But here in Cleveland, it's not the same".

As a staple on Cleveland's dancehall scene, Corkscroo's resume is extensive, "I've taped Makka B parties for the past two years, I've taped Sharon Untouchable party last year, and I've taped Fire Links last year.  I taped the Players Ball in May, you name it, and I've taped it from Dailey's to the Club Center."

"I want the people here to love coming out; to see themselves as STARS and let other places know we do our thing here too. That's why I came up with the name U/Can.  It's a double meaning. I'm based here in Cleveland/New York and in Toronto, Canada hence U/Can United States-Canada.  But it also means ?U/Can do whatever U put Ur mind to.'

In addition to taping dances and other events, there is also U/Can Music (16416 Euclid Avenue).  Here one can find videos featuring dances from Jamaica, Canada (and yes, Dailey's & the Club Center) along with CDs, a well stocked book collection, as well as  custom ordered official Bob Marley clothing.

As if the video taping and the retail store isn't enough, additionally, Corkskroo/C.D. Miller owns U/Can Printing- a 24-48 hour turn around for business cards, flyers, posters, CD covers as well as ½ and Half DVD Magazine coming in September.

Corkskroo send much love to Cleveland's dancehall community including Jamerican Cuisine, Summit Urban Gear, J & N,  New Horizon Sound, Lisa Engel & DJ Chubby and  the rest of the Sound Crews, Dance Crews, Restaurants any one that support Cleveland's Reggae Movement.

So are you up to the challenge?

Are you ready to Step-N-2 the Light and big-up yourselves?

Cleveland promoters, are you ready to do big things and take the dancehall back to the way it use to be?  When the masses flocked to Cleveland to the dance by way of planes, trains and automobiles?

Come on Cleveland U/Can Step-N-2 the Light and shine!
