Well, well, Cleveland, here we are again headed into another year full of great bashes, stage shows and other events to make this year a great one. Chat ?Bout Cleveland hopes 2011 finds each and everyone in good health and prosperity for the New Year..
It was all about "The (Re) Launch of Sample Jack" and Birthday Bash at Caribbean Flavor on January 1st. All we can say is if this bash is any sign of what 2011 holds, we are in for a great year, because this party was NICE! This annual event bought plenty of faces from (dancehall) past and regulars together for some great tunes and good vibes.
Chat ?Bout made entered the bash at about 12:30. (Yes, it was an early event). The parking lot was full and you could hear the sounds of Sample Jack from the parking lot.
The party was in full dance mode as DJ Lava and Marc Dragon played for the packed place. It was good to see Slaughter, Screechie and the rest of the Sample Jack crew playing together once again.
The tunes were nice as Lava blessed the crowd with some old and new dancehall favorites, along with a few new dub plates for the occasion. DJ Lava and Marc Dragon were in control of the tunes and keeping the party jumping. Chat ?Bout spotted some new faces in the crowd, but they all seemed to be vibing to the tunes as well.
Also in the crowd kicking off the New Year was Ricky Hype, promoting his birthday bash, "Doctors VS. Nurses", YHP Superdee and Rahima, New Horizon Monk, DJ Chubby, 91.1 DJ's Jomo Benn and Idris, Kabir, 2010 Best Promoter Maggie Untouchable, Dainty Sharon, Brittany, Toya Barbie, Bashment Crew, Diamond Girls, Onnie, Tallest, Platinum Fam Marcia and Shaheeda, Always fly Sherri and Tamika, Shoe Diva Andrienne, and the list goes on - trust there were a lot of faces in the place, and if you missed this one - SMH! LOL! (That's Facebook for SHAME ON YOU!) Big up Ras Carl in the building catching some vibes - it was so great to see him back on the scene as well!
As expected the stage show didn't start until about 2am. KC Platinum took over the mike to welcome the crowd and introduce the first opening act.
(You didn't think they would go right into the main event, did you?)
Marc Dragon surprised some of the crowd with his singing talents singing a few old school R&B tunes bringing the attention to the main stage for the stage show. A few other performers took to the stage and the crowd responded to them pretty well.
No sooner, than the thought of someone missing came to my head, Blacka took to the stage, singing his signature "...whisper words of wisdom, LET IT BE!" And the crowd responded thankfully. Blacka also sang one of his Celine Dion favs and no sooner did Blacka warm up and was ready for another tune, the WRAP IT UP signal came from Slaughter and off he went.
The first headliner of the evening was Mr. Pepper, belting out a few familiar tunes including 'Talk' to an already hyped crowd. The ladies were REALLY feeling this artist and it was time to see a hot young artist to get the Cleveland ladies hyped up! He can make it a date in Cleveland ANYTIME (that is what I heard - I was working J )
The vibes were definitely nice in Flavor as KC introduced the main act, Lutan Fyah. As usual, the front of the stage began to fill up and the energy of this bash rose to another level. Lutan belted out a few damn - I -forgot - he - made -that- tunes and the crowd went mad.
As Lutan took a few breathers in during his performance, Mr. Pepper filled in, keeping the crowd hype and soon Lutan and Mr. Pepper was joined on stage by a few local artists and the crowd knew this stage show was set to go all night..
Uh, well, that is what we thought.
In the blink of an eye and a flick of the lights, Flavor promptly shut the place down at 3.30 asking patrons to exit the building. Following up the request enter Euclid Heights Police Department at the front door, making the exit go even smoother. Gotta love ?em!
Big up to Lurline and Gary for keeping a great event - Cleveland is so looking forward to more reggae events at Flavor this year!
Best quotes of the night - (yes, we see and HEAR it all!)
"Oh - HE sings, too??!!"
- People in the crowd referring to Marc Dragon during his set
"I love everyone, and for those who don't love me - God Bless You!"
- KC Platinum, talking about ?Cleveland Love'
"Dem don't like me, me don't like dem!"
- In regards to the EPD anticipated arrival
In case you were one of the few peeps that missed the event, here are a few pics!
