Reggae Boys Patrick
presents:
"Jamaican Independence Celebration"
Luke Easter Park
8.3.09
It was all about celebrating Jamaica's Independence as Reggae Boyz Patrick assembled the masses together for a Jamaican Independence Celebration last Sunday at Luke Easter Park. The day long event was filled with family fun, music, food and great vibes.
The early clouds of the day potentially threatened the festivities, but, by noon the clouds gave way to a beautiful cool and sunny day. People took the opportunity to catch up with old friends and most importantly, spend time with their families in a laid back atmosphere. Chat 'Bout could feel the relaxed vibes of the event as people laughed talked, and - dare I say- let down their guards a bit..
Along with other vendors for the event, Chat 'Bout was on hand early (to set up CBC's VIP Booth) with other participants including Mr. Dailey with his Jamaican Jumparound (the favorite of the kids) and the ?Island Delights' wagon filled with corndogs, fruit smoothies, and beef patties (Big up Ms. Shrimpy for holding it down!), Silk of Soundtonic was in the place to supply the tunes as well as Mr. Chris AKA Bogle Jr., selling his signature jerk chicken, fried dumpling and rice.
By about 5pm, the park began to fill as the crowd awaited the main event: The ?Exhibition' soccer game featuring XXX/Reggae Girls VS. Craigtown Girls. What started as a novel idea for ?the girls time to play soccer' turned into the highlight of the event with Blacka as referee along with a host of onlookers (including Star Temple Ricky Hype, Punkie and Tommy) with much ?side line' commentary. Big up Shavon, Anne Marie Blaze and the rest of the XXX/Reggae Girls as well as Denise, Jackie and the Craigtown girls for doing your thing on the soccer field.
Much love to XXX for coming away with the 2-0 win and a BIG trophy. Big up Craigtown Girls for looking damn good playing the game with matching black and white ensembles, complete with FULL accessories (yes - earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings and makeup!)
In addition to the soccer matches, there was also a host of relay races and games for the kids, all a welcome attraction to the event. It was good to see the ladies exchange the stilettos for sneakers and not be afraid to have a great time.. Who knew?
Maybe next year Chat 'Bout can run in a few races -
Never mind - We can stick to taking pics and passing out candy!
By sunset, the park was packed as Silk turned up the tunes to bless the crowd with a few dancehall favorites to get the people dancing and kept the good times flowing into the night. Soon, KC Platinum presented all participants from both the women and men's matches with trophies and the party continued well past 9pm. The caht bout is the party continued on to Dailey's for Silk's "$1 Sundays".
Missed the pre - celebration? The Jamaican Independence post - celebration continues THIS Sunday at Kerruish Park with music by Black Scorpio and Rich Lowe. It all goes down at 12 pm!
In the meantime, check out the pics from the event!
Enjoy!
