'Pre-New Years Eve Bashment'

Dailey's

12.27.08

It was all about the last bash at Dailey's Saturday for Swine Lane Productions 'Pre New Years Eve Bashment'.  Great weather and the holiday spirit contributed to the success of the sell off dance as the masses came out to support one of Cleveland's true dancehall celebrities.  Big man, Phil Pot.

Don't know this fella you say?  If you saw someone at the dance sporting a spiked collar with biker gloves and thought - WTF?  Yeah, that's him!  Dance after dance, this guy never seems to disappoint in the fashion department.  Love it, hate it, or just don't get it - we say it definitely works for him.

Chat 'Bout Cleveland made an early appearance at the bash at about 12:30.  As expected, in true dancehall fashion, the parking meter was on low.  Selector CB supplied the dance with an early warm with a few oldies but goodies.  As the dance began to fill, CB cranked up the tempo to get the crowd in party mode.

YHP Superdee soon took over the sound -and the crowd with classic tunes like, 'Destiny' and 'Brown Skin'.  The emerging party crowd obliged, singing along with the tunes and swaying to the music.  Super Dee ended his set with a few choice R&B tunes, including the new song by Jamie Foxx.

Star Temple Ricky Hype picked up the tunes and took the masses back with some old tunes like, 'Rock Me Tonight' and keep  the party vibes going with popular tunes, 'You Can Have (Whatever You Like)', 'Live Your Life' and 'Single Ladies' - the tune that had all the ladies-single or otherwise- in the place walking out.  By the time Ricky Hype ended the set with Sizzla, the crowd went wild and wanting more (at his birthnite bash next week, perhaps?).

Also in the crowd to ring out 2008 was Maggie Untouchable and Dainty Sharon, Burlow, Flava Unit, Bashment/Barbie Doll Crew, Ms. Trini, New Horizon Fam and of course Sir Albert Dailey, himself made an appearance.

Big up Philpot for the first selloff dance of 2009,  what else does the New Year have in store for Cleveland dancehall fans?

While we wait and see, check out pics of the event.

Still optimistic,

Bashy

As we come to the end of 2008, Chat 'Bout Cleveland would like to close the year on a short and sweet note as Seeshellz brings the review and pics from one of last bashes of the year...

Mr. Dailey + Maggie Untouchable

"3rd Annual Customer Appreciation Bash"

Dailey's Blue Mountain Inn

12.20.08

It was all about Maggie Untouchable alongside Dailey's Blue Mountain Inn for the 3rd Annual Customer Appreciation Bash last Saturday.  The annual bash a huge success, as Dailey's said 'Thank You' to his loyal customers with free admission and a chance to win great prizes  - all while soaking up the tunes from Superdee (YHP) and New Horizon.

Chat 'Bout made a true fashionably late appearance after 2am only to find the event's hostess, Maggie -in her holiday inspired red, greeted guests at the gate.  It seemed most dancehall regulars (or true customers) were treated to free admission and a raffle ticket for one of the fabulous prizes - including a microwave oven, vacuum, and crock-pot.

There was a great vibe on throughout the crowd as YHP, Superdee blessed the crowd with a few 'get hype' tunes including 'Leave Us Alone' by Assasin which got both the ladies and the fellas out on the dancefloor.  Not to be outdone on the tunes, by 3am, New Horizon came on hard, playing tunes like It was like 'Heart Attack' by Beenie Man and gal fav 'Man is the Least' by Lady Saw.

This years bash seemed to attract a different type of crowd for Dailey's - bringing a new vibe to the dance.  In addition to the new faces in the crowd also feeling the vibes were New Horizon Fam, dancers Coco T and Ms. Trini - rocking the cute purple ensemble, Barbie/Bashment Crew - always representing,

Big up Dailey's crew for another great year-end bash and big up Maggie Untouchable for raising the bar YET again with some fabulous prizes.  Co-Promoter of the bash, Maggie, says she always feel good about this bash, "Giving back is what I do. Even if you don't win something you get in for free. So that way, everyone has a nice time".

Awww, can you feel the love?  If you missed the bash, here are a few pics...Enjoy!

'True Friends Jah Guide Over Us'

Club Center

12.6.08

Not Rain, Nor sleet could keep the masses away from the big bash last Saturday at the Club Center as Tan Tan, Billy Slaughter, Survivalist and DJ Oliver presented 'True Friends Jah Guide Over Us'.  With the return of Stone Love AND Metro Media, the chat 'bout surrounded this dance for a few weeks, so - do you really think a few inches of snow keep the masses away?

.Let's just say the weather cleared up in perfect bashment time (around midnight) giving party people plenty of time to head to the Club Center.

As Chat 'Bout arrived much earlier than usual, there was a concern as the parking lot gage was on very - low.  But CBC pressed on to the venue and took a moment to enjoy the surroundings; great food, a bar with a great selection for the ladies, picture man and an improved powder room (is THAT news?  For The Club Center - Y E S !!!!)

As the tunes boomed through the place courtesy of New Horizon Powerstone, partygoers began to trickle in and (finally) fill the red carpet area.  Then, almost as quickly as the venue filled in, the party ?woke up' as Organik Sounds blessed the place with a few hot tunes to get the ladies walking out and the fellas wylin' out while keeping video man, Yaardbeat moving to catch all the action!

Soon, the first guest sounds of the evening, Metro Media took over as they treated the masses to their latest dub plates and newest tunes from Jamaica and a few in the crowd felt obliged to buss some of the latest dance moves.  New Horizon Monk AKA Big Belly Mon set the place on fire with a few of his 'signature' dance moves, as Lady Spyda and Ms. Trini represented for the ladies on the dancefloor (and the speakers, chairs, etc).  Stone Love soon took over as the dance was in full hype mode and kept the party moving with more than a few oldies but goodies, a few new tunes and of course their signature unique dubplates.  The sounds of Stone Love swayed the dance until about 6am.

Also in the crowd feeling the vibes were Flavor Unit (waiting on your next sell off bash, fellas!), Toya Bashment alongside the Barbie Doll Crew (looking to do a few BIG things in 2K9), YHP Superdee, dancehall veterans The Diamond Girls, Paul, Maggie Untouchable (don't forget about the FREE Bash at Dailey's on 12.20), Punkie with sis Nunkie, Michie Boo and The New Horizon Fam.

Big Up Tan Tan for a sell off bash! The promoter was pleased about the turnout and the support Cleveland showed in spite of the weather.  So once again Cleveland, Big Up yourself as we continue to support each other as we move into 2009!

Here a few pics of the bash taken by Chat 'Bout Cleveland newbie, See-Shellz!  CBC is truly excited about the newest staffer!  With a few changes and new ideas for 2009, expect to see bigger and better coming from Chat 'Bout Cleveland as well!

Huge love and thanks to Punkie for the additional pics!

...Still growing!

3rd Annual 'Black Out Party'

Caribbean Flavor

10.31.08

'Behave You Rass Self' was the message partygoers received as they entered a deep, dark Caribbean Flavor for CGP's 3rd Annual 'Black Out Party'.  The event- which fell on Halloween this year- was decked out for the occasion in full décor; from the webs on the ceiling and of course the goblins all around.

By the time Chat 'Bout arrived to the bash at about 12:30, the place was rammed packed with witches, fairies, demons and everything in between.  The dancefloor was filled to capacity and overflowed as the masses grooved to the tunes of Organik Sound- Leisa Engel AKA Officer 'Ivana Bribe' and her convict, DJ Chubby.  CGP CEO Ajoy AKA Racer gal  was also on hand enjoying herself for the event.

There were so many people feeling the Halloween vibes and just having a GREAT time including a (naughty) nun - and nurse, pirate (complete with parrot), old school playas - yes with minks, an angel AND a devil.  Big up to the the cutey cute trio in the fella with the nice legs (I really wasn't looking) in the Roman gladiator costume!

CGP was full of supporters including Witchie Poo Punkie and sis Honey Bee Nunkie, Mademoiselle Lovie (working the HIGH class French maid, thank you very much), Trini alongside the waistline crew, Glam Gal Suzy Q, She-referee Cynthia, the Blaze Crew, New Horizon Fam and my favorite costume of the night - Ms. Sheena or AKA Ms. Blackout..

CGP AKA Caribbean Groove Promotions is clearly becoming this city's most consistent promoters as they deliver yet another mad bash to the Cleveland masses.  It's the Flag Party in April, The Full Throttle Fridays Anniversary Bash in July, Leisa Engel's Birthnite Bash in August and now for the third year, Cleveland reggae dancehall partygoers have another event to add to their calendar, as CGP's 'Black Out Party' was yet another success!

.And with the event landing on October 31st - what better way to spend Halloween?

Here are a few pics, Enjoy!

And - Yes, I DID wear a costume (thank you very much!)

The Blue and White Affair

Dailey's Blue Mountain Inn

10.18.08

YHP and Superdee had Cleveland feeling 'BLUE' last Saturday at his annual birthnite "Blue and White Affair".  Although the night was filled with his usual supporters, the decision to move the bash from the spacious Club Center to Dailey's proved to be a smart one. But, once again, it was the quality of good tunes and good times that made the promoters follow up to "The All White Affair" a success.

As we reached Dailey's at about 2am, the parking lot gage was on medium, since we were able to get our usual parking space.  As we entered the bash, the crowd didn't reflect the parking situation as the bash was in full blue party mode as NYC Jamie Hype was spinning the tunes and had the crowd moving to every tune.  Jaime Hype even played a few Soca tunes to get the Trinis hype and slowed his set down with a few Bob Marley favs.

Star Temple Ricky Hype took over the tunes and started his set with the Obama inspired Movado/Green Lantern tune, 'We Need Barack'. Ahhh, don't you get that political feeling???  Big up to Ricky for spinning the Fudgie Springer tune, 'P&^*y Good' and getting the crowd even more hype - Always good to see Cleveland supporting...

In true dancehall fashion, Superdee bought along The Hennessey Dancers to keep the party going.  These ladies got the crowd hype with the latest dances as well as a few ?situations' with the guest of honor himself, Coco T, and several turntables, chairs and speakers.  Damn, is this what the dance is turning into?  I remember Destiny and them doing there thing back in the day, but this seems different somehow. Hmmmm, can't compete with that!  ..

Speaking of compete, not to be outdone, Ms. Trini and crew had to buss a few new moves on the floor.  As the crowd obliged, I thought I heard a few people actually cheering her on...Nahhh!  Who knew the Cleveland gals still had so much love on the dancefloor?  With all this, isn't it time for a REAL dancing contest so we can see what crew really got it going on??!! (hint, hint, Cleveland promoters, hint.)

Also in the crowd feeling blue was New Horizon Powerstone and DJ Curly, Untouchable Crew Maggie and Sharon, CB, Organik Sound Leisa Engel and DJ Chubby, Flavor Unit and Blacka.  Big Up to Ms. Trini and Ms. Shavon for representing Cleveland and showing our ?visitors' what Cleveland is all about.  (Shame on the next crew to come out of town trying the takeover).

All in all I think this dance was a success, the masses seem to be s l o w l y getting back into the groove of things.  Only time will tell as October closes out with a few  bashes including The Balance Crew's ?The Libra Birthnite Bashsment' at Dailey's on the 24th and 25th and CGP's ?Black-Out Affair' at Caribbean Flavor on Halloween Night.

So, what's up Cleveland?  Are we still partying or what?  While you all decide, here are a few pics of the event....

Needing a jolt,

Reggae Boys/Reggae Girls

"Girls Night Out"

9.13.08

Dailey's Blue Mountain Inn

The Cleveland masses never seem to amaze me and still after all these years, no one can EVER predict what will happen at the dance.  Big up Cleveland for showing your support to our own Reggae Boyz and Reggae Girls after these long last few days.

The chat 'bout was iffy - wasn't too sure about the vibes for Saturday's dance; after Makka B's funeral services, and all the heavy rainfall adding to a heavy heart - I made up my mind, I wasn't going and resigned my self to stopping by Dailey's - pre-dance - for a cocktail in honor of my friend.  But, as I looked around Dailey's, I could see those still celebrating the life of Makka, and soon had a change of heart.

We realized the decision was a good one as we approached the venue and the parking gage was on hot mode.  As Chat ?Bout entered Dailey's after 2am - wow! The décor for the bash was fabulous and tastefully executed.  Soccer balls (of course!) 'kicked' around the place; adorning the wall and the balloon center pieces; all in gold, black and green.  Always loving a great theme, it was a delight to see how the elements and colors came together.  Job well done, Alicia - or should we say Martha (Stewart)?

I must admit the dance seemed a little strange as people simply stood around the venue and looked around - almost like we were waiting for something.  People drank, talked and still - continued to stand..I don't know WHAT that was about...

But soon, KC Platinum, after blessing his set with a moment of silence for Makka, shook the masses out of their trance and played a white hot set filled with some older culture tunes leading up to a few dancehall favs including the Summer's 'girl power' anthem - "Take a Bow" by Rihanna.  As the tunes played on, the highlight of the evening came as Mr. Platinum introduced the masses to (Cleveland's) latest dance craze, 'The Makka B' as he called out "Do the Makka B!" and partygoers - including Ms. Trini were more than happy to oblige.  It was maaaddd! Big Up yourself Mr. Platinum, it was good to hear you play reminiscent of the days of Dad's Hall, Rueben's & Big Family!

What seemed like a hard act to follow, New Horizon took over the sounds and carried the dance to its full potential as Selectors Monk and Powerstone played the latest dub for the October 4th Munga stage show and ripped the set with oldies like Lady Saw's 'Man is the Least' and newer tunes like 'Money Changer' and 'Buddy Inna  - - '.  By the time the lights came on at an (early) 3:30, the party was in full dance mode as people continued to jam to the tunes.

Also in the place feeling the good time were host/birthday boy Mikey alongside wifey Alicia (looking 'red' hot), Blacka, First Class, Star Temple Ricky Hype, Flava Unit (waiting for their next bash!), Organik Sounds Leisa Engel and DJ Chubby - doing the low key thing, Kiwi Bashment - doing the solo thing, Coolie, and Camille 'Eva Ready'.  Much love to the people in the place rocking their Makka B t-shirts (can anybody tell me where I can get one?)

So there you have it, what started out as a dark and dreary day turned into a great night as Cleveland came out to support The Reggae Boyz and Reggae Girlz while (slowly) getting back into the swing of it all.  It was a night all about great tunes, great vibes, and having a great time-

Just the way Makka would have wanted it..

Keep supporting..

(Here are a few pics.  Thanks Alicia!)

Sir Albert Dailey's Birthnite Celebration

8.30.08

Dailey's Blue Mountain Inn

Dubbed as the biggest event of the summer, Sir Albert Dailey's Birthnite Bash lived up to it's hype!  Mr. Dailey's much anticipated bash was filled with great tunes, music and did we mention dinner?  The masses defiantly came out to support Mr. Dailey at the Mecca of Cleveland's Caribbean community, Dailey's Blue Mountain Inn.  The Chat 'Bout is that this bash, as always sell -off as the dance pressed on way past 5am.

As Chat 'Bout entered at an early 12:30am and to our surprise, Dailey's was packed with well wishers to take in the buffet style dinner as well as the culture tunes played by New Horizon's Big Man Monk.

Sir Albert, took things down a (slight) notch from last year and greeted his guests with an Island Style theme. The décor was simple, yet stunning. Grass skirts adorned the doorways giving a hut effect, while bamboo stalks filled with leaves cascaded along the foyer.  The dinner tables further carried the Island theme by having beautiful glass vases filled with sand and bamboo pieces, atop of burlap table runners.

New Horizon's Power Stone took over from Big Man Monk and continued keeping the crowd lively as patrons led by Curly Locks from New Horizon Crew mashed up the dance floor.  Both men and women in the bash danced enjoyed the tunes and dance all night.  Trust, there was nothing but big smiles and great vibes courtesy of the laid back theme and great tunes.

Star Temple's Ricky Hype did the damn thing starting off by playing Makka B's dub for his BIG MAD BASH this Saturday at the Club Center featuring Charlie Blacks & BUGLE.  Not to be outdone, Leisa Engel (still celebrating her big bash at Caribbean Flavor last week) did her thing and kept the crowd on maddddd mode.

As with Mr. Dailey's bash, there were several dancehall celebrities in the place including the Untouchable Crew Maggie & Sharon, The Flavor Unit, The Reggae Boys, 116th Crew, Uprising Crew, Dailey's Crew and all too many to mention.  It was easier to say who was missed the bash than to name who was there.

Chat'Bout had so much fun that we barely got any photogs. Sorry, but if you were there you know why.

Ciao,

Leisa Engel's Birthnite Bash "Lingerie Dreams/Strawberry Fantasies"

August 22, 2008

Caribbean Flavor

See, I told you.

If you missed Leisa Engel's "Lingerie Dreams/Strawberry Fantasies" Birthnite Bash last Friday at Caribbean Flavor (located at 321 Babbitt Road), what else can I say?

Well, where do I begin?  I know what you are thinking. a lingerie party?  Hmmmm, I don't know.. But YES.  Let me tell you the party was NICE y'all.  I was loving it all - décor, the theme and especially the music!  The masses were definitely in the house to support Cleveland's first lady of Dancehall; all Cleveland promoters, crews, selectors were in the place to wish Leisa a happy birthday.  (And the fellas to get a look at the ladies in their ling-ling, I'm sure).

Chat ?Bout Cleveland decided to arrive at the venue a little on the early side and good thing!  The parking lot gage was on FULL at about 12:30!  Luckily, I grabbed one of the last few parking spots, and followed the bass coming from the club.  Ready to party, my mode was interrupted by a party patron ?commenting' about the admission.  As the doorman explained there was a lingerie party, I chuckled to myself since she was obviously dressed for the theme (see, SOME men don't even notice!).  While the patron continues to 'comment' about the price - I was tempted to pay the extra money just so she could hurry the line and I can get in.

As I FINALLY entered Flavor, I noticed all the barmaids and Mrs. Lurlene in full lingerie/pajama mode.  Okay, okay, I am feeling this.  Then I see the deep red curtain accented with the beaded curtain and red balloons to create the boudoir look.  To further add to the elements of the theme, guests were treated to strawberries with whipped cream and Leisa's birthday cake?  What else?  But a cassata cake (filled with strawberries and cream)- adorned with her picture, of course.

After spotting the guest of honor taking a few pics, (looking cutey cute in her purple bustier with black slip and garter), taking a look around the venue, the lingerie/pajama theme was present as some fellas decided to do the silky pj or boxer thing and the ladies settled somewhere between the playful sleep date and sex kitten look.  But, it was all in good taste and most importantly, good fun!  The people came to have a great time as they danced to the tunes of DJ Chubbie as well as other Cleveland selectors, Super Dee and New Horizon Powerstone supplied a few tunes as well.

As the crowd grew thicker, the party kicked in full gear as guest selector, Jamie Hype ripped the set, WOW!  Playing tunes like, ?Tek wey Yourself', ?Doh' and of course ?Money Changer', the masses couldn't help but to keep dancing!  Let me tell you, the tunes were NICE and I will definitely be in the look out for Jaime Hype at the next bash!

Also in the place to wish Leisa a happy birthday, longtime supporter, Lady Spyda (showing the masses she still ?got' it), the Waistline Crew (Trini, I missed you again!), Punkie and Nunkie, the beautiful Ms. Lovie and Eva Ready Camille, CoCo Tea (loving the boxers), Maggie Untouchable alongside Naughty Nurse Sharon and French maid Michie Boo, The Barbie Doll Bashment crew (arriving fashionably late), New Horizon fam DJ Curly, Ms. Punkin, Shavon, Summer Body Suzette and Stacy.

All in all, this was a great dance!  Big up yourself Cleveland for showing a lot of love, making this bash a blast and of course - keeping - it- classy!

(Next year, I won't CHICKEN out - I promise!)

Mad 'cause I forgot to get some cake,

Toya Bashment 'We No Worry 'Bout Bad Minded People'

August 2, 2008

CLub Center

One can easily say the Cleveland dancehall scene has certainly been on an upswing for the last 3 or so years; from the great stage shows; promoters stepping their up their game with nice bashes and now -must we say - a slight female movement on Cleveland's dancehall scene.

Yes, we all know Maggie Untouchable as a promoter and it has been great to see triple threat Leisa Engel give ?em a run on the scene. But one can say a few of Cleveland's biggest dances to date has had ?the female touch'. So now, after Saturday, we can add one more to the mix. As Toya Barbie put it, ".The Fellas had their turn; it's time for the Ladies!"

Once again, the Cleveland masses came out in full support to show much love for Toya Barbie's dance last Saturday at the Club Center. The bash called, ?We No Worry ?Bout Bad Minded People' featured Baltimore sound King Raw Deal alongside Cleveland sounds Sample Jack and Youth High Power. The dance was a great success and we at Chat ?Bout Cleveland are especially thrilled. Equally proud were the countless people that took a moment to show Toya Barbie some love during the dance.

As Chat ?Bout entered the dance at about 3am, the crowd was still slowly filling up the place. It was great to see Toya Barbie and The Bashment Crew doing their thing on the dance floor. And why shouldn't they? The looked absolutely fabulous! The guest of honor wore a custom dress -pink - of course complete with bling while Brina Bashment wore a dark purple and pink ruffled one piece she -tuxedo with matching gloves and garter. As usual, the whole crew was fly especially Kiwi Bashment with the black lace ruffle frock - can we say chic?

On hand giving Toya there full support were Flavor Unit (waiting on their next BIG bash), Maggie and Sharon Untouchable, KC Platinum, Lovely Lovie, Eva Ready Camille, Shavon and Summer Body Gal Suzzy Q. Also making an appearance - Ocean Wave Eye, Michie Boo (haven't seen her in the CC since LAST July) and a few members of New Horizon family joined in on the bash after their event at Dailey's.

The sounds of Youth High Power Super Dee filled the crowd with a few old and new tunes. It was definitely a great vibe in the place as everyone was in the Club Center having a good time. As Sample Jack Lava took over, the crowd got thicker and by the time featured sound King Raw Deal took over the bash, the party was in full hype mode. Like the flyer claimed, ?Come Early, Stay Late' the bash carried on until well past 5am.

So big up yourself Cleveland for once again representing to the fullest and showing your love! This was Baltimore sound King Raw Deal's first visit to Clevelanda and they were loving our party vibe and look forward to coming back very soon! And with Toya's promises of another bash in the (very) near future, those who missed King Raw Deal may have a second chance real soon!

Feeling the girl power,

Bashy
