It has been many years since Cleveland has seen a Clash among our sounds, but this was a good night to be to be out. Big Up Cleveland Selectors that came out and participated in this event as the Cleveland party fans hope to see more clashes in the future. Dancehall Veteran, Richie Rich was on hand to MC the event as there was as much happening in the crowd as there was on the sounds. Big up Camille Eva Ready and Nando for making this a true dancehall sound clash complete with props and the usual banter between rounds.
Round 1:
DJ Powastone came with a great selection of usual dancehall vibes and a few dubplates, the crowd was eager for this clash to begin, so they obliged their hometown fav with their approval.
Columbus Sound, Excalibur learned first hand about the (particular) Cleveland dancehall crowd as he failed to move the crowd during the first round. This performance was quickly met with much disapproval (and even a few boo's). The sound then eliminated himself from the place and left shortly after the first round.
Veteran soundman, Ricky Hype was next in Round 1 and showed himself as a true Selector as he played to the crowd and quickly won over audience.
Closing out the first round was New Horizon Monk, laying down a few dancehall favs that kept the Dailey's fans happy and on to the next round.
Round 2:
Powastone took the ?safe' route and also played a few dancehall favs for the dancehall regulars. But, since this is a clash, the people wanted something more. This lukewarm performance ALMOST eliminated Powa from this round.
Soon, Ricky Hype was up next as he showed his competitors that he had a few tricks up his sleeve. In true dancehall form, Ricky pulled some tunes out of his dancehall archives, which got the crowd rockin' to his beat. Truly reminiscent of his Mo' Betta days, for all the followers of Ricky Hype.whoa...he set it out.
Ending Round 2 was Monk who was ready to bring the drama to this round by dissin' the older song selection of Powastone by asking the crowd, "want new tunes?", "Ya want new tunes...Monk has new tunes". Although Monk supplied the crowd with a few new hot tunes, the crowd didn't give the reaction he was hoping for, leaving him out of the next round.
Round 3:
In an attempt to redeem himself, Powastone returned to the sounds, trying to keep up with Ricky, but to his surprise, the crowd was STILL not feeling him..many thought the final selectors should have been Ricky Hype VS Monk, but it did not really matter..
Ricky remained focused on the crowd and continued to move the crowd with his hot selection of tunes. Keeping true to the music and not the drama, Ricky won over the Dailey's crowd. The crowd has a strong response to (the quieter, gentler) Ricky Hype as the named him the winner of the 2K10 Sound Clash!
