2009 Criss List Awards Bash Review and Photos

Chat 'Bout Cleveland
Cleveland Reggae Sounds

presents:

2nd Annual Criss List Awards Bash

Caribbean Flavor
3.14.10

The place was Caribbean Flavor as many of Cleveland's Caribbean Community gathered for the 2nd Annual Criss List Awards Bash on Sunday, March 14th.  Caribbean Flavor was filled with local business owners, promoters, soundman, artists, bands, dancehall divas and dons to see who was voted the 'Best of the best' for 2009.

The venue began to fill up early as the sounds of Jah Messenger provided the pre-show entertainment for the guests.  Many attendees also took time to walk the red carpet and take a photo, courtesy of Ke Photography and Lawrence the Pictureman.

As the crowd continued to grow, enters Sir Albert Dailey himself - to the surprise of many.  "Man, what did you all have to do to get Mr. Dailey out?" Became the question of the hour...

The event began at about 8pm, but the late start didn't seem to shake this crowd as they sat back and enjoyed the event by catching up with old friends and rocking along with Jah Messenger.

As the show began, host Leisa Engel thanked the Cleveland massive for coming to support the event, she then called WCSB radio personality, Jomo Benn to present the first awards for Best Radio Personality (Caribbean Groove) and Best Family Friendly Event (Sunday Soccer at the Park).

Mr. Delroy Bryan and Ms. Keturah Thompson, president and treasurer of the Jamaican Cultural association presented the awards for Best Caribbean Grocer (J&N) and Best Caribbean Restaurant (Taste of Jamaica).  Next, WCSB DJ Tommy Foxx presented the awards for Best Female (Lady Spyda) and Male dancer (Coco T).  The awards for Best Theme Dance (Pink and White Affair) and Best Annual Event (Midwest Reggae Festival) were presented as well.

The show paused for a brief intermission as guests was treated to a live performance by Cleveland's own, Sunshade as he sang a few new tunes for the crowd.  The audience, some who never had the pleasure, truly enjoyed his performance.

The program moved on as KC Platinum presented the awards for Best Dressed Female (Suzette) and Male (Mr. Linkup) and Best Promoter (Maggie Untouchable) - which he accepted on her behalf.  DJ Ciara was on hand to present the awards for Best Local Artist (Sunshade) and Best Selector (DJ Chubby).

Super promoter, Blacka presented the awards for Best Local Band (Jah Messenger) and Best Sound (New Horizon) - but not without announcing his upcoming sell off bash, 'Get Along' coming April 17th.

The final awards for the evening were presented by Chat ?Bout Cleveland's own, See-Shellz.  Best Crew Female (Craigtown Girls) and Best Crew Male (New Horizon) and finally, the awards for Best Bash of 2009 (Black Out affair).

The crowd was surprised as Alexis Dailey came and read a few words about her dad, Mr. Albert Dailey.  The surprises kept coming, as he was presented with A Lifetime Achievement Award.  Mr. Dailey was overwhelmed as he accepted the award and watched the never before seen video presentation provided by Rich Lowe.  Caribbean Flavor Gary took the stage to say a few words about Mr. Dailey as well.  The crowd obliged with much applause and a standing ovation.

The event ended as Chat 'bout Cleveland thanked all those who supported the event and presented gifts of appreciation to both Lurlene and Gary, owners of Caribbean Flavor.

The closing performance of the evening came from Umojah Nation.  As the band played on a few sets, on comes Blacka and Sunshade to join in the set.  In a blink of an eye, picture KC on tambourines, Brignite and Outlaws I&I singer joined in turning this into a jam session featuring a ?who's who' of Cleveland's artists.  Before it was all said and done, Jah Messenger Wayne, Milton Blake and Lady Lana took to the stage as well.  After almost an hour, Tracey from Umojah Nation came on stage to end the impromptu performance, but trust me!  It was truly enjoyed!

The party went as DJ Chubby alongside Sample Jack DJ Lava Ranks and selector Slaughter took over the sounds and got the party started.  The party was in full swing as Sample Jack got the party hype and just when you thought the night was over, Lady Spyda arrived in time to receive her award (a let the people see why she won Best Dancer).  Much Love to Sample Jack and Organik Sound for keeping the party vibes going until 2:30!

Chat 'Bout Cleveland spotted too many supporters to list, but big up Ms. Veronica from Island Style, the owner of J&N Grocer, the staff of Taste of Jamaica, and the Jamaican Cultural Association - fully represented!  There were so many people in the crowd; we want to thank you all for the support!

Here are the pics from the event.  There are 4 (yes, 4) albums from this event!  Enjoy!

See you next year!
