presents:
1st Annual Reggae Awards Bash
1.31.09
Beachland Ballroom
It was all about celebrating the Best of the Best in as Chat 'Bout Cleveland alongside Packy Malley presented the '1st Annual Reggae Awards Bash' Saturday, January 31st at the beautiful and spacious Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Road). Just as the Cleveland masses responded to the 2008 'Criss List', they showed much support as the event was filled with many of Cleveland's reggae celebrities.
As guests to the bash were welcomed by an awards style entry - complete with red carpet and photo backdrop. As one continued to the ballroom, many enjoyed the celebrity style atmosphere; the flashing lights, table settings and of course, music. One look around the place, you can see mixture of Cleveland reggae community; from radio personalities and selectors to artists and everyone in between. It was easy to see people enjoying the tunes, catching up with old friends and would I dare to say NETWORKING????
Yes, Chat 'Bout Cleveland boasted a 'on time' start of the event, but in true dancehall fashion, there were some late arrivals- enough to push the start of the event from 10 to 11pm. Early arrivals to the event were fully entertained by the sounds of Silk from Soundtonic and KC Platinum, supplying an ?early warm' for the guests with a mix of classic dancehall, culture and lovers rock tunes.
Anticipation grew as finally, Chat 'Bout Cleveland's newest addition, See-Shellz, greeted the crowd and started the event with a mighty 'Let's get dis ting started, mon! - The crowd obliged with great applause.
The first group of awards were presented as DJ Lava Ranks (Sample Jack) accepted the award for best stage show (Beenie Man at Club Center), followed by Reggae Boyz Patrick for Best Family Friendly Event (Sunday Soccer at the Park).
Best Radio Personality Winner, Rich Lowe (Night of the Living Dread, 91.1) took over the sounds and inspired the crowd with tunes from Capelton, Buju Banton and Sizzla. In addition to bringing the hot tunes, Rich supplied partygoers with lighters to keep the vibes going during his set.
The next awards, presented by Rich Lowe, were awarded for Best Promoter - Packy Malley, Best Local Band - Umojah Nation and Best Local Artist - Sunshade, a crowd favorite.
As the event moved on, enter a few Soca and Calypso tunes from 89.3's Jomo Benn of ?Higher Vibes' (WCSB 89.3). Needless to say, Jomo's set got the people on the dancefloor and the evening was in full swing...
Jomo announced the next winners - New Horizon for Best Male Crew (accepted by Doe Doe), Midwest Reggae Festival for Best Annual Event (accepted by Packy Malley) and CGP for Best Theme Dance, ?Strawberry Dreams/Lingerie Fantasies' (accepted by Ajoy),
Soon, DJ Tommy Fox (89.3 WCSB) took over the tunes and kept the growing crowd vibing. Tommy Fox was on hand to announce the last awards for the evening including Bashment/Barbie Doll Crew for Best Female Crew (accepted by Toya Baaaarrr-beeeee!), and DJ Chubby accepting Best Sound awards for Organik Sound AND Best Selector - much to the crowd's approval.
Chat 'Bout Cleveland Editor/Publisher, Bashy Bloggette and Packy Malley (One Love Promotions) thanked all the masses for supporting the event as well as announcing plans for the 2nd Annual Awards Bash. The event with the final presentation of the evening: Best Bash of the Year to Reggae Boyz for the sell off Birthnite Bash at Dailey's.
Chat 'Bout Cleveland spotted many dancehall celebrities in the place supporting the event including Punkie and Nunkie (who says they will be on the Criss List in '09!), ½ and Half Magazine Editor N Chief, CD Miller AKA Corkscroo (promoting his HOT event coming on the 21st) nominees Ricky Hype (who says NEXT year will be his year), Superdee from YHP and New Horizon Monk. Big up Reggae Artist Viscous in the place handing out his latest CD' and mixing with the Cleveland masses. Also checking in were nominees Maggie and Sharon Untouchable, Red Carpet Ready Blaze Crew - Ann Marie, Carla, Karine, Karen and Ruby. (Big up to the Blaze Crew for congratulating Best Female Crew Winner - true class act ALL THE WAY!)
All in all, the chat 'bout this event was all love and support as the people are looking forward to a repeat performance in 2010. Much love to all those who supported this event! Special thanks to all Cleveland Reggae Radio DJ's for the support, Silk, KC Platinum, and especially all those who came out to the Beachland to make this event a HUGE success!
